Can forums still make money?

The link is not working for me, but this is a very interesting, and something I really would like to know more about. I soon will be starting a website with it's main focus on the forum. If you can no longer place your ad's on your forums it will make me rather mad as I see it as a very easy way to make a smaller steady income after you get the forum started. So could somebody possibly tell me more about this or get me a link working in IE7 please? Thanks in advance!
