Default Platform Independent C++ OS Library?

quench writes "Hello! I have been away from Windows and Linux application software for 5 years or so, doing mainly C-like embedded C++ programming. Now, I am about to start a project emulating embedded hardware on Windows. Been there, doing #ifdef WIN32 and #ifdef LINUX stuff, don't really want to go there any more. What I actually need is a platform independent lib covering Windows and Linux variants to handle sockets, IPC and threads abstractions. And a rock solid but simple embedded database to emulate flash memory. My reflex said, go for ACE and Berkeley-DB. Tell me, am I out of time? Am I missing something new and trendy, easier to use and better? Did time stand still?"pa href="http://developers.slashdot.org/story/09/10/11/1910257/Platform-Independent-C-OS-Library?from=rss"img src="http://developers.slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/10/11/1910257"/a/ppa href="http://developers.slashdot.org/story/09/10/11/1910257/Platform-Independent-C-OS-Library?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./ppa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/4yf4IrqiY5MEl8zxr68bRdNihm0/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/4yf4IrqiY5MEl8zxr68bRdNihm0/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/4yf4IrqiY5MEl8zxr68bRdNihm0/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/4yf4IrqiY5MEl8zxr68bRdNihm0/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdotDevelopers/~4/GrSVcDMUszg" height="1" width="1"/
